49ers trade WR Deebo Samuel to Washington Commanders for draft pick

The Washington Commanders have acquired San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel in exchange for a fifth-round pick. The trade won’t be official until the new league year starts on March 12, pending a physical, according to CBS Sports.

Samuel, 29, played in 15 games in 2024 and had just 51 receptions. He recorded 670 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns, plus 42 rush attempts for 136 yards and a score. Samuel is one of four players in NFL history with 4,000-plus receiving yards and 1,000-plus rush yards through their first six career seasons, per NFL Research.

The move reunites Samuel with Commanders general manager Adam Peters, who previously spent seven seasons with the 49ers front office. The 49ers selected Samuel 36th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft.
