HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The board chairman of Shoreline Behavioral Health Services in Conway was arrested Wednesday by Coastal Carolina University police and charged with third-degree assault and battery.

Mark Singleton, 64, is also a teaching associate at CCU. As of 11:45 a.m. Thursday, he remained in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to online jail records.

No additional information about his arrest was immediately available, but News13 has reached out to CCU officials and has called and emailed Shoreline Behavioral Health Services to ask for a comment or statement.

Singleton is one of five Horry County residents currently serving on the center’s board of directors, according to Shoreline’s website. The board “provides oversight for agency clinical and financial operations and works in close collaboration with the Executive leadership of the agency.”

A bio on CCU’s website says Singleton retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel in July 2004. It says he is a lead sniper instructor and senior advisor for counterterrorism and special operations for Horry County police in addition to serving on the Bucksport water system board of directors.

Shoreline Behavioral Health Services is located on Wise Road in Conway.
